Poetry

Erroneous

Friday, April 13, 2018 by Christopher Matthias

What a wonder
It is
To live in this time
When every day
A belief
That has been held
For as long as we might recall
Is revealed as tradition
Rather than wisdom
And might be the very antithesis
Of the jewel it was supposed to be
And how difficult
And how liberating
it is
To have been wrong all along
And to have to reimagine
The universe
And our place in it
Do not rinse your pasta in cold water
Do not believe in the blindness of bats
Do not postpone your heart’s desire to swim after a summer sandwich
And do not surrender your own goodness
To a goodness that is not there
