Clocks

Thursday, October 17, 2019 by Christopher Matthias

ONE

There is a clock on my wall
Which ticks
But does not move

The journey is expected
What is unexpected is the staying

TWO

My Clock and Yours

Two clocks in the same room
Analogs in dialogue
Tick tick
Tock tock
Tick tick
Two clocks
In the same room
Telling time time
To each other other
Just off off
The beat beat
Tick tick
Tock tock
Tick tick
Two clocks
Cannot agree
On the second
Nearish on the minute
Consensus almost always
upon the hour
Tick tick
Tock tock
Tick tick
Tock tock

THREE

A moment—
According to a childhood memory—
Of Trivial Pursuit facts
Is one-and-a-half minutes

When there are three clocks in the room
There is a waltz swinging
Ti-ti-ta
Ti-ti-ta
Ti-ti-ta
Sixty-ti
Sixty-ti
Sixty-ta
Thirty-ti
Thirty-ti
Thirty-ta
Which makes a
Ninty-ti
Ninty-ti
Ninty-ta
And with a
Number of
Two hundred
Seventy
Movements of
The hand or
Of the feet
The moment
Passes on
Ti-ti-ta
Ti-ti-ta
Ti-ti-ta
